Employee Spotlight: Mi Yoo
Interactive Art Director
Read on if you’ve ever wondered how you go from being an art student to an art director at an agency.
You started working at Davis Elen as a Creative Department Intern in 2012. How did you get started?
I met David Moranville (Partner & Chief Creative Officer) at my senior show while attending Otis College of Art and Design. It was the last day of the show and he came to my area and gave me his business card. He told me, “Call me tomorrow.” I started my internship at DE a week later.
Our CCO moves quickly when he sees talent. You moved from Korea to go to school at Otis. What made you decide to stay in LA and at Davis Elen?
When my internship was over, I was promoted to Digital Designer / Art Director. At that moment, I wasn’t planning to work at DE for a long time, but here I am in my 8th year at DE. I have made a lot of fulfilling memories here. I was fortunate enough to be able to share these moments with my DE family.
Is there a project or assignment you’re most proud of working on?
I mostly work on Toyota but I’m always prepared to help out on other accounts when I have the availability. Toyota is a very interesting account because we have to provide a new campaign nearly every month. It really drives me to push my creative limit, so every project I work on with my team is special to me.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
I really like to eat, and in order for me to enjoy all the food and its deliciousness, I need to exercise every day. I run every morning and hike on the weekends.
